1. Who We Are
NanoURL is an independently operated project based in India. We provide URL shortening, branded links, QR codes, and click analytics. For the purposes of applicable data protection laws, the operator of NanoURL acts as the data controller responsible for your personal information, and can be reached atsupport@nanourl.link.
This policy covers our marketing website and the NanoURL application. Some parts of the service are delivered through trusted third-party providers, which are described below.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Account Information: When you create an account we collect your email address and name. If you sign in with a third-party provider such as Google, we receive basic profile information (such as your name, email address, and profile picture) as permitted by your privacy settings with that provider.
- Link and Dashboard Data: We store the original URLs you submit, the short links and aliases generated, any QR codes, and the settings associated with them, so we can operate your dashboard and link management features.
- Communications: If you contact us for support or abuse reports, we collect your email address and the contents of your message so we can respond.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Click Analytics: When a visitor opens a NanoURL link, we record aggregate, non-identifying information such as the referring page, device and browser type, and approximate geographic location. To respect visitor privacy and count unique visitors anonymously, visitor IP addresses are hashed before storage and are not retained in a readable form.
- Technical and Log Data: We may collect limited technical information (such as error logs and request metadata) to keep the service secure, reliable, and free from abuse.
2.3 No Payment Information
NanoURL is free to use. We do not require payment details and we do not collect or store credit card or other financial information.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Provide, operate, maintain, and improve the service and its features.
- Authenticate you and keep your session secure across our subdomains.
- Generate and display analytics for the links you manage.
- Protect the service, prevent fraud, spam, and abuse, and enforce our Terms of Service.
- Respond to your support requests and send service-related notices.
- Comply with applicable legal obligations.
Where required by law, we rely on your consent, the performance of our contract with you, or our legitimate interests (such as security and abuse prevention) as the legal basis for processing.
4. Cookies, Analytics & Authentication
4.1 Essential Cookies
We use cookies that are necessary to operate the service. When you log in, secure, HTTP-only JWT (JSON Web Token) cookies are placed on your device to verify your identity across our subdomains and keep you securely logged in as you manage your links.
4.2 Analytics
We may use third-party analytics providers (for example, Google Analytics) to understand how visitors use our website in an aggregate, non-identifying form. These tools may set their own cookies. You can control or block cookies through your browser settings.
4.3 Managing Cookies
You can accept, refuse, or delete cookies through your browser or device settings. Blocking essential cookies may prevent you from logging in or using parts of the service.
5. Advertising & Our Free Service
NanoURL is free to use and is funded through advertising. We may display third-party advertisements, affiliate links, or promotional notices across the platform. To do this, we may work with third-party advertising and analytics partners, and their cookies or tracking pixels may be used to display and measure ads.
Where required by law, we will obtain your consent before using non-essential advertising cookies, and we will provide a way to manage your preferences. We do not sell your personal information.
6. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these limited situations:
- Service Providers: Trusted vendors that help us run the service, such as hosting, storage, email delivery, authentication, analytics, and advertising partners, under contractual confidentiality obligations.
- Legal Requirements: When required to comply with a legal obligation, valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of NanoURL, our users, or the public.
- Business Transfers: If the service is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
7. Data Retention
We retain your account information and link data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. We may delete links, aliases, and associated analytics at any time in accordance with our Terms of Service (for example, inactive links or links removed to stay within storage limits). When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), hashing of visitor IP addresses, and access controls. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential.
9. International Data Transfers
NanoURL is operated from India and uses service providers that may process your information in other countries. Where we transfer personal information across borders, we take steps to ensure it receives an adequate level of protection consistent with applicable law.
10. Children's Privacy
NanoURL is not intended for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Your Privacy Rights (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, CalOPPA)
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell your personal information.
To exercise any of these rights, email us atsupport@nanourl.link. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
